Electromagnetic radiation at TeraHertz frequencies is used to control emergent properties of solids. As an example, electronic coherence in superconductors can be dynamically stabilized at temperatures above Tc. X-ray Free Electron Lasers are integral to this work, to sample the microscopic parameters of solids transiently.
