Light-Driven Water Splitting: Between Bio-Inspiration and Solar Power

  • HPV G 4 ETHZ Hönggerberg Zürich Switzerland (map)

Juan I. Collar

Department of Chemistry, University of Zurich, Switzerland

Host: Christof Aegerter

The vision of hydrogen “for free” from solar light and water unifies chemistry, physics and engineering, such as in the UZH Program “Solar Light to Chemical Energy Conversion”. I will present our journey into the eye of the needle of artificial photosynthesis: water oxidation catalysis. My stations evolve from nature to applications: starting with soft bio-inspired approaches, leading to solid state design, and proceeding to solar thermochemistry.
